When Calgary guitar players need their instruments serviced, few repair shops will understand the intricacies of an instrument better than Guitar Repair Shack. Owners James Fry and Dougie McLellan have been working on guitars since the late-1990s, helping musicians get their prized pieces back into great shape. “I started when I got a job at a music store in the Chicago area and had the opportunity to learn more about instruments and guitars,” James says.
James opened his first official shop in Calgary in 2010 with business partner Dougie and guitar tech Adam Richer. Guitar Repair Shack also has another location inside a Guitarworks store that was established in 2012. Everyone on the three-man team works in both locations.
Guitar Repair Shack repairs an average of half a dozen instruments per day. “We can do anything from adjustments to new strings to major work,” James says. On larger jobs, manufacturers will ship in the parts and Guitar Repair Shack will do the rest.
