It’s probably fair to say that Don Kim has been fascinated by business operations from an early age. Immigrating to Canada at 16 years old from Korea, Don didn't complete his university studies in electrical engineering; instead, he upheld his family responsibilities and helped his parents operate their various small businesses.
As a young entrepreneur, sharing ownership and operating duties with his parents, Don proved his commerce savvy hands-on, running a grocery store, supermarket, restaurant, coffee shop and gas station and eventually, a consulting firm. He refers back to his Korean upbringing, recalling the emphasis placed on children to support their parents. Equally important, however, is formal schooling; earning an education is a highly valued accomplishment.
Respecting his ancestral philosophies and following cultural precedent, there was no doubt he would return to university, and when he did, Don earned his CGA designation. His practical business experience provided the foundation to put his proprietary interests into his accounting practice. In 2010 he opened his Coquitlam office, Don Kim, Certified General Accountant. "I am proud to say that I don't just have accounting experience, but real life, real business operations experience; I know what it takes to be successful in business."
