I was seated at a table waited for waitress, who never made it to my table. I went and got my food got back to my table took 1 bite of my food and a couple came to my table telling me I was at their table. I would like to thank the inept hostage for humilating me. When I told her what she had done she only looked at me with her mouth open she couldn't even offer up an apology. I left angry and disgusted my such lack of service. Agnes
Great food...one of my favorite places to eat
Having lived in Nanaimo for many years I don't know how I overlooked this place. Seriously, last night was the best take-out experience I have ever had. We ordered the dinner for 3 and it was more than sufficient for us. It tasted fresh and delicious. The food, in our collective opinion, is by far the best Chinese food in Nanaimo (not soggy or greasy)and the delivery person was friendly and on time. I love this place will definitely order from Hong Kong House again.
I am just putting it out there-not to do business with the HONG KONG Restaurant in Nanaimo if you are having them deliver a large order for a banquet. First of all we asked for an order for 20 people to be delivered today between 4pm and 4:30. This was ordered many weeks ago and was confirmed Friday-NO PROBLEM we were told. We finish our darts and are all sitting around and no phone calls figuring no problem. Waiting-call them and--read trip reviews for the rest that they won't allow me to speak

We are very sorry that your order was late and I don't want to make excuses. It should not have happened. We have many deliveries every day that are right on time and we try to be very fast 100% of the time but sometimes we will fall short as we did in this case. We wanted to offer you more at the time this happened to make it up to you, but as you said the cheque was already written so you could not really accept a discount at the time. I love the buffet at the Hong Kong House. The food is great and theres lots to choose from. I'd highly recommend them for local Chinese food.

My wife and I have been going to the HKH for many years up until last year when we noticed things were changing for the worse. I recently had an order delivered to me and quite frankly this place has changed drastically in a bad way. The chicken chow mien had 4 slivers of what looked like chicken on the top and with the 4 strips of chicken was a large pile of what looked like tuna out of a can (flakey), in fact one large piece which was square in shape was grey on the underside. I was able to slide the grey piece off as if it was a piece of skin, I'm not sure why they would put fish on chicken chow mien but none the less ewwww. The almond chicken was nicely portioned, after biting into a piece I find that there is a small sliver of chicken coated in a disgusting amount of half cooked batter which tasted a lot like burnt fryer oil, again.....ewwww. The sweet and sour pork was not bad until the third bite when I bit into something resembling cartilage, needless to say ewwww, all went into the garbage. Lucky for me I was hungry so I ordered a war wonton soup which for the most part was pretty good minus the fatty pork. That is multiple bad experiences now, and we will not be returning to this once fine establishment. I truly feel bad for the previous owner seeing what they worked so hard to make great going down so quickly.

Since the new ownership we have expanded the menu with more healthy options and we make all our food fresh in the restaurant every day with quality ingredients. We have eaten at HKH for well over 13 years. The food and staff WERE great until an ownership change this past year. The smorg was good and the take-out was better. The quality of the food has fallen off, and we are again on the search for our next regular spot.

With the new ownership in 2011 we began offering healthier options like more vegetable items in the buffet, No MSG, and began cooking our fried items with healthier vegetable oil instead of lard. We always strive to have a quality product and invite you to come back and try us again.
Prices have gone up dramatically while the quality of food has dimished. The chicken chow chop suey was very cold and the food tasted extremely salty.

Yes, Our prices have increased slightly over the years just to keep up with inflation and food cost increases but our prices have not gone up by more than 25 cents a year in the past decade. We always struggle with increasing prices but sometimes it is necessary to continue to provide our guests with fresh quality food. We feel that we offer an exceptional value for the price and we hope that you would agree.
The Hong Kong House has the best chinese food in Nanaimo!

We had to ask the waitress to smile, the host waiter said he was not having a good night and was too tired to care if telling us was a problem, the food was only ok. None of the staff smiled and because of this, it created an unpleasant atmosphere for any type of restaurant. The lighting was also too bright. All in all... We won't be going back...

This was under the previous ownership which did not always emphasise great customer service. The current ownership cares very much what customers think and it is important to us that you love the food and the staff. We like to build relationships with our customers and many of them are regulars that have eaten here for years and love our staff so please come see us again and let us show you we are the best Chinese Buffet in Nanaimo with the largest selection and freshest food AND the best staff.
I love the Hong Kong House......when ever I want to go out for Chinese...I go here!Great selection of different food....with salad bar and deserts.......never had one complaint about the food....sometimes the service can be slack....but I don't care. I have been going there for 13 years....and unless I move out of Vancouver Island,I will be going there for many years to come.

Generic Chinese food. The hot and sour soup was excellent. The sweet and sour pork was good. The chow mein and chop suey were both bland. We ordered delivery in our hotel room as we were spending the night due to excessive BC Ferry wait times. We should have not ordered after the lady on the phone gave us prices from the "new menu" which was different from the menu in the phone book but we were tired and hungry. Overall I don't think I'd recommend this place.
