“My mom grew up on a farm in Richmond; we used to go out there all the time when we were kids. When my dad first started selling fruit out of the back of his car on the North Shore in the late 1970s, he was selling the strawberries from my grandparents' farm,” says Bruce Reid. “Then he was selling out of the back of a truck and over time he had a temporary structure that he would set up in different locations.”
Every season since 1991 – once they receive their telephone call from the Reids that the season has started – North Shore residents have come in droves to Delbrook Plaza for a friendly chat and their pick of the fresh local fruit and produce brought in from the Fraser Valley farms every morning. “These days, we have an email list too, but many of our customers don’t use email, so we call them up at the beginning of the season. We’re quite old fashioned that way,” smiles Bruce.
Not only will you enjoy the friendly, helpful service at this family-run fruit stand, but with little overhead and by purchasing directly from a trusted network of local farmers, Bob’s Fruit Stand brings you great prices on the highest quality of local, seasonal fruit and produce.
