Raising girls in the modern world is fraught with perils their parents never had to contend with. Think online bullying, duck-faced selfies and digitally documenting every embarrassing moment. Girls need more than a little help navigating this new world, and not just when it comes to online safety. This is where Sole Girls comes into play.
Developed by Ashley Wiles, a lifelong runner, TEDxKidsBC speaker and life coach focused on health and wellness, Sole Girls is all about empowering girls from eight to 12 to be active while developing healthy ideas about body image, media, peers, self confidence and self esteem.
“Through our program we connect girls with high school and university mentors, our sole-teers, who have experienced issues around body image and friendship and want to be part of creating a powerful community of girls and women who support each other,” explains Ashley. Sole Girls also focuses on 'tweens, as they're still open to trying new things and are less concerned than their older peers about what is cool and not cool.
