Beware of this place!! They fall into a rare category of restaurant in Vancouver--one where they somehow get sufficient business to stay alive despite the fact that they care little about their customer! If you go to either of the two restaurant locations--West 4th or Denman Street in Vancouver, you will the find the service obtuse and uninterested in your welfare! ! The food is OK, but the service and attitude of the place is absolutely unacceptable. If you order take out or delivery, you take your chances on the success of your experience and your evening--you will be given wait/delivery times that are fictional, and you will be given lame excuses when your expectations are not met! In a city with so many better food options, its a mystery why this place is still in business
Maria's is a Kitsilano institution. The atmosphere is everything you would expect a Greek restaurant to offer complete with pictures of Greek scenery adorning the walls. The food is really good and even my wife who is not the biggest fan of Greek food loves the food at Maria's. I usually have what I had on our most recent visit...one of the souvlaki dinners. Our most recent trip I had chicken souvlaki and the chicken was perfectly tender and the potatoes and rice were great too. Next time you have a hankering for Greek food visit Maria's Taverna on 4th!

Maria's Taverna was established in 1987 by Maria and her family. Thanks to her hard work and dedication, her namesake eatery has established a reputation as one of the finest Greek restaurants in Vancouver. Maria worked in various Greek restaurants across the city, including the infamous Orestes, before she branched out to brand her own style of Mediterranean food. Her specialty items include her kleftico (roast lamb), paithakia skaras (lamb chops), mousaka and her signature chicken souvlaki. She is also known for her homous and taram and sizzling saganaki. You won’t be disappointed in visiting Maria's Taverna. OPA!
