Conveniently located in the heart of the Punjabi Market in South Vancouver, Punjab Food Center is a one-stop shop for affordable staples and all the hard-to-find ingredients for Indian recipes.
As an ambitious young man, in 1975 Harinder Toor left India and immigrated to Canada. He immediately noticed a lack of Indian spices available in his new home of Vancouver. Recognizing a good business opportunity, in 1981 he opened the doors of Punjab Food Center and has been providing quality products and friendly service to a multi-cultural customer base ever since. “Every day is interesting because there are customers from all communities coming into the shop. Everyone is welcome,” smiles Harinder.
Stepping inside Punjab Food Center, you’ll be greeted with a smile from Harinder and his team, who are more than happy to steer you in the right direction of any ingredient you’ve been searching the city for.
The Punjab Food Center imports authentic, hard-to-find Indian and South Asian food products for local shoppers. If you’re trying to find an elusive ingredient for an Indian recipe, or if you just love Indian cuisine, you’ll be like a kid in a candy store here. Popular with Indian and South Asian expats, this store carries a wide selection of spices, fresh produce, bulk items such as rice and beans, seafood, dairy and confectionery items.
