Suika is Kingyo’s sister restaurant. Visit during lunch hour to enjoy a yummy bento box – the generous portions will keep you full for hours. At night, the room gets slightly rowdy as the Sapporo starts flowing. The menu boasts an extensive selection of small snacks to start, plus creative rice and noodle options to satisfy your snack cravings into the long nights.

Suika doesn’t offer nearly as many vegetarian options as other restaurants on this list, but those it does are unusual and delicious. Try the Portobello mushroom lunch special: thick strips of Portobello “steak” marinated in a rich, sweet-yet-vinegary sauce, and served alongside rice, vegetarian miso soup and as much green salad as you can eat.

While most people are more aware of its sister restaurant, Kingyo, I have fallen in love with Suika. It has lots of energy, unique decor (check out the light fixtures made out of Japanese liquor bottles!), an interesting cocktail menu, and of course, an exciting food menu. I love the corn kakiage, beef short rib and the spicy hellz chicken. If you are an adventurous eater, order the tonsoku, a crispy pork foot sautéed in soy butter.
