I Enjoy the buffet, for on price.

the only one thing I wish they have is more choices

I only eat here because I live in the same building so I don't have to go outside in the cold when I get it.
There are a few gems on the menu such as the club and ploughman's lunch but I haven't been very impressed with anything else that I have tried.
The server's are all really friendly but are too busy to give great service.
This use to be one of my favourite places. I kow the owner and he clearly does not care anymore. Service is awful and the food has become very mediocre.
Went there 2 weeks ago and the place was empy on a Saturday at 10:30 pm
We ordered all kinds of food from bangers and mash, to fish and chips and curry dishes. Everyone was happy with their food. personally, I though the lamb vindaloo had more fat than actual meat, but the flavor was amazing and the rice was perfect.

Awesome food, Curry can be hot at sometimes, would be my only complaint. By that I mean depends on who is working in the kitchen, you could order it hot and it is hot and good, and then the next time order it hot and have it unberable. I say stick with the medium, it is always tasty and you wont have to worry about not being able to eat it.
Service is good, sometimes a little slow but it seems they are working just caught up somewhere else.
Atmosphere is more dinnery as apposed to sport barish, or a music lovers dream. You can watch a little tv, chat with your friends or server, or play darts. As I said though more of a restaurant then bar.
I've been a regular here for the last couple of years, usually for the curry buffet on Thurs. It's difficult to find really good authentic Indian food anywhere in Guelph. I've been spoiled by growing up in the UK where the standard of Indian cuisine tends to be a lot higher than Canada. The Pennywhistle does a very good job with the buffet.
Nice staff and environment too. Beer is also very good here. Nice pub.

I went to the Penny Whistle twice when I visited my sister in Guelph. Both times the food was really, really good. The prices were good, and the waiters were nice. The only not-so-good thing that I can think of is that the music was a little loud , but I got used to it. Atmosphere is nice, all of the decorations make it a really nice place to be in. I could go there all of the time if I lived in Guelph!
We had a large crew of friends. Very good night. Incredible service as the waitress did her best to take care of like 10 single bills. Drinks were there in a matter of seconds, although I have had better Caesars - food arrived quick as well. Chicken wings were quite possibly the best I have ever had, crispy and saucy and some of them were like the size of drumsticks! They let us watch the basketball game on a saturday night when the Leafs were playing. Prices reasonable for food, I have higher range because we all has like 3-4 drinks.
Id like to go back for the pub grub but also to try the Curry. First rate as far as Guelph is concerned.
I love the curry at the Penny Whistle. I am a frequent customer at the Whistle and have a great experience every time! The food is great and the service is as well!
This pub is awesome. My boyfriend and I used to visit last year once a month. We went back in May with my new in-laws and had really talked it up to them. Too bad we didn't get a server we knew. HINT: Ask for Kathreen or Holly's section, BUT avoid the heavy girl who takes an entire table to put the forks and knives in serviettes. That must be her special skill because she doesn't like to do much else. Especially after the food arrives. She didn't even ask who ordered what, she just delivered our meals and drinks and walked away. We fetched our own drinks after that from the bartender. He just rolled his eyes at her. She had no problem getting the bill to us though, we didn't have to ask for that! The food is the best pub food in the city. Service is great (you've been warned where NOT to sit) Lots of parking right downtown.
been to guelph manny times and never heard of this place. The service was great. our server seemed experienced. She was attentive and pleasant.
This place reminded me of a real pub in europe!
The mixture of curry and pub fare was SPOT ON!

and we would recommend this place to anyone who loves good food and pubs
definetly, definetly, definetly DONT listen (or read) any thing she has to say about the pennywhistle, the food is great (with 2 different menus; indian and pub food, and a huge tap selection). and as for the service, incredible! my friend jacob and I feel right at home with the staff at this fine establishment.
oh and p.s janice, the tap selection is posted pretty much everywhere in the restaurant on every table and literally every wall.
we recommend the penny whistle to anyone who wants great food, great service, and the coziest atmosphere in guelph ON.
This place has clearly gone down hill since we
were here last summer. Fish and Chips
were not good. Hot Beef was worse. I can't tell you how disappointing it is to get attitude when you ask what is on tap. Either make a prominent sign for each table as places like other restaurants do, or get ready to tell customers. "It is on the menu" in a tone that is not pleasant is not acceptable. We won't be back.
My boyfriend and I have made this our regular joint to relax, drink Guiness and share their yummy vegi samosas and salad (our fave meal and resonably priced too!) The staff are friendly and attentive. Just love this pub :)
As far as Pubs go in the downtown Guelph area, this one is my personal favourite. Such a relaxing and comforting atmosphere with outstanding service and friendliness displayed by waitresses and bar tenders. When in thirst I head straight to the Whiss baby. Big Time.
