George Kiriakou, his brother Peter, and his two cousins grew up at The Wexford Restaurant. As kids, they washed dishes and today, they are the third generation carrying on the family legacy of this friendly neighborhood diner. Situated at the Wexford Heights Shopping Plaza in Scarborough, The Wexford has been serving customers homemade food for more than 55 years. Some of the same customers who walked through the doors when George was a young lad still come here today to eat — or just have a cup of coffee and chat.
“Toronto has become so homogenous, it’s easy to get lost,” says George. “You come in here, and it’s like you are family. We say ‘hi’ to everyone who walks in the door, we talk to them and we listen. People feel a connection when they walk through our doors.”
After immigrating to Canada from Greece in 1958, George’s grandfather and brother started the business. Later, George’s father Anthony (now semi-retired) took the business to another level — expanding the restaurant in the 1980s. Seating went from 50 to more than 200. There is even a private room where local businessmen and women can conduct meetings. Photos of the neighbourhood and local sports heroes adorn the walls, jockeying for space. George points out that the vintage photographs tell the story not just of the restaurant, but also of the neighbourhood.

Hosted a large group for my fathers 92nd birthday. Food and atmosphere was great. The staff was warm and very accommodating.
Typical diner style restaurant. Was clean inside, and portion sizes were very generous. Service was good, with our waitress checking up on us often enough. Sure the cost of some menu items seemed slightly high, but based on the overly generous portions and fresh food, it seems reasonable. Would come back to try some of their other items.
Guy behind cash was very edgy. Bouncing all over the place. Sammy Haggart was in Florida. He is all entertainment. Will be back. Great food.
Went there for breakfast and lunch on two occasions. I had the best salmon sandwich in my life and my friend had the best burger he'd ever had.
As a bus driver, I drive around the city and stop at a lot of restaurants and I find the Wexford's breakfast is head and shoulders above the rest! Service was prompt, portions were large, quality was great. The diner look has an original feeland I felt at home in this friendly atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restaurant as do many of my fellow drivers.
I was looking forward to a nice all day breakfast (as per the good recomemndations on this site) and was extremely disappointed. Waitress was curt, forgot my bacon (which I was charged for) and disappeared when I wanted the cheque. Food was not cooked properly.
My sister in law who lives in Toronto recommended the Wexford to us. The service was excellent and the food came very quickly. The food and portions were excellent except for the potatoes that ween't cooked enough. We are from Gatineau and will for sure go back on our next visit to Toronto. I would definately recommend the Wexford to anyone that is not too picky about the decor. It is clean but certainly needs a little face lift.
Everyone knows its the place to come for breakfast. Even large groups are seated fast, its a large restaurant Great patio outside, fast and friendly service. Always good food. Real homemade cooking, fresh squeezed OJ, fresh cut potatoes, free refills on your coffee/tea. Even cater special requests like gluten free meals! They make you feel like family every time you come.
Excellent service, friendly and fast. Made me feel like I was part of the family. Can't go wrong with chicken dinners priced like this! Coffee refilled any time. We did not feel rushed to leave. Great patio, must come back and get seated outside. I certainly will be back.
1. The place is dirty. It needs a very good cleaning. 2. The service was poor. Our waitress who called everyone honey couldn't remember the orders. Long delay, then she brought us someone elses breakfast. We had to wait all over again. Asked for refill of coffe. Nothing happened. Second request and she got the bus boy to bring it. (Quality of coffee was poor.) 3. Food was so so. Not the worst we've ever had but certainly not the best. 4. WAY WAY OVER PRICED. $30.00 before tip 5. Went to pay the bill at the front and the owner/manager was very unimpressive. Didn't look at us. No thanks for coming. Not a word. Very unpleasant experience. Will never go again or reccommend the place. Will tell others not to bother going.
Fast service, friendly atmosphere, free refills on coffe and tea, free newspapers to read and take home if you want! Food was delivered quickly, hot and exactly as ordered. In and out in 30 mins, we had to rush. But that was no problem at the Wexford. We frequent this restaurant a lot since its reasonably priced, good food that's fast.
Food was mediocre at best; cold and hard potatoes, bacon taste like butter. The place was dirty: tables were sticky and not clean, carpet was repulsive. It is time to give it a good cleaning or shut it down. I will never set foot there again.
Have heard great things about this restaurant, and I believe every word of it. Unfortunately, my first experience wasn't a great one but I'm willing to forgive and forget. Service is top-notch, the waitress was very nice, we didn't know what we wanted to order and she was very patient and knowledgeable. Knew the menu very well and was able to make some suggestions. The hamburger was homemade and was DELICIOUS, cooked to perfection (grilled just right, and moist on the inside) with a fresh bun. French fries were also great, nice and crispy. I ordered a slice of blueberry pie because the menu said they were baked fresh daily, and I'm a sucker for home baked pie... well, it was likely the worst piece of pie I've ever eaten (actually, I couldn't even eat it). Maybe it was baked fresh that morning, but by dinner time it had been sitting in the fridge all day loosely wrapped and going soggy. No big deal, so I wasted a few bucks, now I know not to order the pie again. I love my all day breakfasts so next time I'll go for the eggs and a bottomless cup of coffee, I've heard it's the best in town!
Very good food, fresh OJ, good cup of coffee, always refilled, excellent service-fast too! I visit regularly.
Outstanding service, fresh orange juice, bottomless cup of coffee and green tea. We were their for three hours, and nobody hurried us out! Just a great place to chill out and read the free newspapers for customers to read. My girlfriend brought her laptop and they let her plug it into an outlet. Very friendly and quick service. This is how a restaurant should be! A friend told me about the Wexford and now I found my spot for breakfast/lunch.
This place is just amazing! My family and I went in for breakfest and we are very happy with the food and service. I come here all the time with my family because the food and prices are just fantastic. I recommend for all of you to try this place, just spectacular!
Have been coming here since 1960's! Hey! This is a classic comfort food restaurant that's been in business for over half a century. Breakfast is a must here - eggs done to your taste and the western omlette is the best in town. The fries with their "diet" gravy is to die for! (not too many places have this style of gravy anymore - it's great - but don't order daily or you'll end up like HAYSTACKS CALHOUN! Service is excellent - friendly and fast - always ready to warm up your coffee mug. They still have the swivel stools around the counter - classic diner style. It brings the community together and there is always some humorous banter about the Leafs or politics. Try it out and enjoy!
I was extremely disappointed - the prices were too high for the food that was prepared. Nothing exceptional about this place.
I eat here every Sunday morning. Staff is friendly, food is always cooked to your order and always delicious and fresh.
Definatly worth eating at the Wexford, you won't be disappointed!! Prices are reasonable.
