Off The Hook Gourmet Fish N Chips serves up classics with a modern twist. Say hello to organic batters, local produce and fresh fish. Premium beverages and yes of course plenty of gluten free dishes.
Menu options at your average fish and chips restaurant are usually limited to haddock or cod, tartar sauce, coleslaw, French fries and not much else. In that respect, Off the Hook owner Steven Karataglidis and his staff deserve praises for putting a modern spin on traditional fast food. In the process they’ve created one of the few gourmet fish and chips joints in Toronto. In a neighbourhood where Mediterranean and exotics cuisine abound, Off the Hook’s menu stands out.
Since the restaurant's opening in 2011, health-conscious options have always featured prominently on the menu. Organic batters, gluten-free dishes and local produce are key ingredients in their recipe to success. “Steve, the owner of the restaurant, created the menu," says Chad Welton, manager at Off the Hook. "One day we realized that some pizza chains’ dipping sauces are quite a big thing so we created a few dipping sauces and those have been huge for us and also gluten-free batter options, which represent about 50 per cent of our sales.”
You can take this spot’s name literally, because all the fish is fresh and delicious! The customer gets to customize their fish and chip order, picking the type of batter – house, jerk, Cajun or gluten free, and then they can choose from the menu of chips! The fish and chips are made from Atlantic cod and come with a dipping sauce.
Off the Hook Gourmet Fish & Chips serves up some delicious battered food. Yes, they serve several types of deep fried fish, but they also serve deep fried chocolate bars, as well as numerous types of poutine. You can choose your fish, choose your batter (gluten free is available) and choose your sides and sauces. Everyone will be happy here.
