“I called the centre Rowanwood Daycare because I was going to call my son Rowan,” explains co-owner Annie Chan, who ended up having two beautiful baby girls instead. “My best friend named my first daughter and my first daughter named my second daughter so I thought it was my turn to name my baby – hence Rowanwood Daycare.”
The ‘wood’ part of the name comes from the natural feel which is central to the operation of the daycare. Open since 2007, Annie’s initial approach at the centre was to combine the natural flow of the Waldorf Program with the structure of Montessori while working within stringent Education Ministry guidelines.
Partner Laura-Jean Bernhardson injects her special brand of creativity and business know-how into the daycare with beautiful wall displays and a vibrant social media presence. “We are a dream team,” says Annie.
When I hear, “Rowanwood” the words family, love, caring, and nurturing come to mind. Both our boys grew up at Rowanwood and were loved, cared for and taught.
