I am from India and love India food but first time I loved Chinese food after visiting this restaurant. I found several mouth watering dishes with a wide range of combination of hot, spicy and bland food. I like the Chicken in Red Chillies and Fish in Soup.
This is exactly what you'd expect of an authentic Chinese restaurant: horrible service, mediocre ambiance, and fantastic food. The Szechwan food here is probably one of the best in Toronto. The food is really good and quite spicy. Very heavy use of "hua jiao" to spice things up, which I appreciate. Don't be scared by the sketchy door/front. The food is honestly worth it. Definitely try the following when you're there: - Fish in Water - Beef in water - Yu Xiang Eggplants - Ma Po tofu - Kou Shui ("Saliva") chicken
Incredible enough, the food was bland here. The quality of the ingredient is poor. If you use old chiles, they will only impart a short, bitter flavor. Cheap soy sauce, old sichuan peppercorns, tasteless fish and meats. Everything was oily. I did not think the food was very hot, even though we specifically asked to increase the level. Orange beef included pieces of stewed (not fried or even stir fried) meet, with no orange flavor or pieces to see, and more chiles than meat. The place is dirty. They use plastic garbage bags as table cloths. Tea cups hold 1 oz and plates are 5 inches. There are 2 poor servers running around, not enough to attend to all the tables. I am used to eating in dirty authentic chinese restaurants, as long as the food was redeeming. I was disappointed with this restaurant. I am also disappointed with Toronto's chinatown. This is some of the worst chinese food I ever had. The food all week was bland, insipid, and not inexpensive. I am still searching for a good place, but reviews are not to be trusted. Is there anyone that knows how to make a good pork bun in this town?
Sichuan Garden is the most authentic Sichuan or (Schechwan) tastes that I have experienced.
Wow, what a great restaurant! THE best chinese in Chinatown.
