For years this place has been the very best in Toronto for burgers. Bar none. Things have really changed, though, and not for the better.......
I have not been in to this, the famous "Yonge & Bloor" location for a couple of years. Sadly, it looks a bit seedy these days.......at my booth the seats were badly soiled (!) and fake bricks were coming away from the wall beside us. The music mix was way too loud and clearly showed no thought at all (AC/DC followed by some anonymous droning Country thing, followed by grating 80's sludge). All that would have easily been forgiven if the food had lived up to all previous visits. It didn't.
After an unbelievable 30 minute wait (the room was almost empty), I was presented with a hamburger that clearly had just had melted cheese/cheese sauce removed from it. Obviously someone had tried to half-heartedly correct the error, but I got a burger I couldn't eat. "No manager available", according to staff, who seemed pre-occupied with personal conversations and cel calls.........
The server suggested it was no big deal, and that I should just eat it. She called it an "honest mistake", but an honest mistake would not have involved an attempt to disguise the messy food I received.
Several calls to the restaurant today have been answered with "No manager available, sir" and "I don't know when he'll be in. He doesn't tell me his schedule".
Run-down and poorly staffed. Another classic ruined........
