Glynn Walters, owner of Impala Bicycles Ltd., knows first-hand what it takes for an aspiring athlete to become a pro. His son, Mark, is a US Pro Champion and a five-time Canadian National Cycling Champ. A regular cyclist for charity events, in 2014 Mark accompanied six-time Olympic medallist Clara Hughes on her ‘Big Ride for Bell - Let’s Talk’ cycle across Canada. The objective of the 12,000 km ride: to fight the stigma attached to mental illness. Glynn and his son also ride together in annual charity cycling events.
“You have to be very dedicated to excel in any sport. Mark was very driven,” Glynn says. “He has competed all around North America and travelled with Clara Hughes on her ride from Quebec to St. John’s. The family has known Clara for more than 20 years.”
Mark’s achievements as a cyclist have their roots in childhood when he used to go to a little store in Whitby that sold and serviced bikes. “Eventually the owner wanted out, so I took over and Impala BicyclesLtd. was born,” says Glynn, an enthusiastic cyclist himself.
I’m in awe of how wonderful the staff are here. I needed help and direction on how to fix a crank arm on my bike but wasn’t sure on how to go about doing it and what to look for. I had two visits at Impala Bicycles for this ‘fixing one’s bike’ journey. Each encounter was a wonderful experience and am grateful for meeting these staff members. Proficient, knowledgeable and efficient is how I would describe the staff at Impala Bicycles. My recent order of a new Cervélo was handled quickly and Included set-up and a fitting session. Staff member, Andrew, spent a great deal of one-on-one time measuring and adjusting all aspects of the bike to my fit: the seat, the reach, the hip/knee angles and even the right alignment for my shoes on the pedals. Excellent customer service, very knowledgeable and friendly staff. I was so impressed with my road bike purchase and after sales service, when it came time to replace my mountain bike recently, I returned and bought a second bike from them. I highly recommend shopping at Impala Bikes. In my opinion, it's the best shop in town!
