“This whole part of my journey almost happened by accident; what really gets me going in life is starting businesses that have strong concepts and identities, and real missions. I admire companies that focus on specific niches, and go to all the necessary lengths to do a good job of whatever they do to differentiate themselves,” proclaims Michel Abitbol, owner of the Saint-Denis Street design boutique, nüspace.

Michel is a veteran businessman with more than three decades of experience. “For over 20 years, I was in charge of a fashion retailer with 20 locations throughout Canada," he points out. "After that, I became a business development consultant for Quebec businesses.”

It is as part of his consulting practice that Michel was called on to work with the boutique that once occupied nüspace’s current retail space. “It was an exotic furniture store which stocked Indian imports. I had a lot of faith in that business and gave them a lot of myself, to the extent that I eventually bought it out. And that is how nüspace was born,” he recalls. Michel was quick to transform the spot into a destination for Montreal’s design enthusiasts.
