Marie-Claude Morin was elected for the first time on May 2, 2011, in the 41st federal election, in the riding of Saint-Hyacinthe?Bagot.In April 2012, the leader of the NDP, Thomas Mulcair, asked Morin to be the chair of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women, one of the four committees chaired by New Democrats. At first surprised by this big vote of confidence from the leader, Morin did not hesitate to take the reins of this high-profile committee that greatly needs an objective and dedicated leader.
