My all time favourite! I have been to Fusilli a number of times now, and it is by far my favourite restaurant. The restaurant is small with a warm ambiance and relaxing background music. You are welcomed like family by Owner/Chef Giuseppi Pelligra which sets the mood for a very enjoyable dining experience. We have also been greeted by another family member Rudy on other visits, as well as the talented chefs there who, you can see love working there and who all have a passion for the food that is beautifully presented. All the times we have eaten there, Giuseppi has recommended a wonderful wine to compliment our dinner. The atmosphere is inviting for couples, groups and families equally. I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the faithful patrons who eat there and have eaten there for years, and I know why: The food is incredible! If you love fresh flavours and food that is consistently delicious and hugs you like a warm blanket Fusilli is it! I have gone to Fusilli many times, tried many dishes there with my family and have NEVER been disappointed. They also have loyal customers arriving for take-out on a regular basis. My all time comfort food there is the Tomato Soup, the Bruschetta and the Seafood Risotto, but EVERYTHING I have tried is truly enjoyable. BRAVO FUSILLI!
My wife and I have eaten here many times since moving to the area 2 1/2 years ago. From the beginning, Guiseppie welcomed us as new found friends. Ever since, he has treated us like family. The food is consistently good-to-great and the value can't be beaten for a downtown restaurant. We often bring out-of-town guests here where they feel they are not getting ripped off by the typical over-priced, over-hyped and gimicky tourist eateries. I am sure we will return even if we move from the area. By the way, the poor review dated Sep 15 2008 was an unfortunate time when Gueseppi was on vacation and left the restaurant managed by people we had never seen before; it was a mistake, as the service and food were sub-par. I suggest the next time he goes on vacation, he close the restaurant!
Giusseppe is the most gracious host. All homemade sauces and fresh ingredients used. They are great with kids and all the food is excellent. Fresh tomato garlic brushcetta, love the perfect pastas . The specials are always excellent, hope for the veal limone. The profiteroles make you forgive any ill your husband may ever have committed.
My husband and I went to this neighbourhood resturant after hearing positive reviews in the local newspaper. We went around 6pm on a Saturday night and were the first diners in the restaurant (very small dining room with a bland decor). We were greeted by our server with: "We don't have any mussels tonight" No 'Hi', 'How are you?' etc. Food was delivered timely but my husband and I felt akward during the entire meals-the two servers just stood at the back of the restaurant and either (1) starred at us or (2) talked about past customers. Being the only diners in a very small restaurant...not very romantic. The garden salad was passable, good portion size but nothing fancy. My husband found the cesear salad watery. The bruchetta lacked any taste of garlic-basically chopped tomatoes on toast. The fun came with our entree: I ordered the eggplant pasta but was brough the gnocchi. I find this hard to belive considering I specifically asked the server about the ingrediants in the pasta (being a vegetarian). Plus, I hate gnocchi. When I pointed this out to the server she responded by yelling at me: "well you pointed at the gnocchi on the menu" Not possible since I had given the server the menu before ordering my main course. Not wanting my husband to eat by himself (and also wanting to get the meal over with), I ate the gnocchi, which could be described as a bland tomato sauce with hockey pucks. My husband's chicken pasta was also bland-basically chicken, pasta and broccoli..no sauce. We decided against coffee/dessert. The server never apologized for bringing me the wrong entree nor seemed to noticed that 95% of my meal was still on the plate. This restaurant is celbrating its 20th year-probably because the only other option in the neighbourhood is Mr. Tasty Hamburgers. Would NOT recommend this restaurant unless you like bland food and bad service.
I've been eating there for almost 20 years. The food never disappoints, Giuseppe is probably the best host in the city and the recipes all come from his mother's farm in Sicily. Except the desserts. Joe's wife Cora makes those. He's even sent me food, to Georgetown when I'm having a party and need a hand. They're the best.
Giuseppe (the owner) treats everyone like family and the prices can't be beat. Great food, great atmosphere -- an overall great neighbourhood restaurant!
