We have come every year in December from Hamilton to Simcoe to see the Christmas lights. We stop at the Barrel Restaurant first, and it is a highlight of our trip: excellent food, excellent atmosphere. There is a very large menu, so I know people can order what they want and sometimes get something different from what they want. Suffice to say that I find the Penne Capri on par with meals served in Italy, and my husband and in-laws refuse to order anything other than the lasagna because they enjoy it so much every time. We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Simcoe last night and this was recommended as the best breakfast in town. It was a good breakfast but didn't live up to that recommendation. Coffee was very good; service was very quick. Very quick but our order was still served good. The waitress was very good about getting it heated up when we explained it was cold. Also delivered extra toast. Toast was very good...made from homemade bread. Peameal was very tasty but cut way too thin. Read more

Just finished seeing Play with the kids at light house theatre. Went for coffee and treat to Tim Hortons. Was served by trainee called "sandie". Very pleasant, even included the kids in talking to us. She had a big smile and was very entertaining. Hope she sticks around. excellent value and good home-style food. Don't come here looking for fine-dining ambience, it's excellent though for family-style meals. Portions quite generous. We had a table of 6 and were seated in the back near two large groups so it was a bit noisy but that's what our family's style often is anyway! Lots of parking, easy to find. My Family, friends and I have been going to the Egg and I for years and although I never thought of writing a review, I have to this time. We were greeted immediately and only waited a few minutes for a table to clear, it was packed! We celebrated my birthday last Sunday and I was craving their Herb Feta Omelette, with a side of Cherry Pink Bacon, which in my opinion is the BEST brand to buy, and cooked to my perfection. Our drinks came out fast, coffee was fresh and always available but what I appreciated most was all our food came out at the same time. Everyone enjoyed their order and we all devoured the Banana Walnut Pancakes. I've been to fine dining and can't stand when my portion is the size of my palm and our food is not served at the same time. The Egg and I is a wonderful, fun Family Breakfast restaurant in Hamilton. This is one of my favourite restaurants. I first was taken here by my father after he had been so impressed eating here at a business lunch. We haven't had a bad meal here ever. My favourite meal is always the eggplant parmesan. It has to be prepared ahead of time, so make to to mention when you make your reservation, if you want it. Food quality is always amazing. The owner is attentive, enthusiastic, and passionate about the food and service.
