Exotic dancers have been replaced by cappuccinos at the site of the old French Maid in downtown Calgary. The block was redeveloped as the Calgary City Centre complex and local duo Paul Brassard and Mark Nolan were offered the ground floor as a prestigious location for the fourth Deville Coffee. Though the fourth café has stayed busy since it opened in late 2016, Paul and Mark's journey towards operating a successful local coffee company has been a long one.
The duo met at Joey Tomato's in Eau Claire while both attending SAIT – Paul studying information technology while Mark was enrolled in the business program. Mark stayed on with Joey Tomato's after graduation, while Paul earned a commerce degree at Royal Roads University in Victoria.
One day, Paul wandered into a Caffé Artigiano outlet in Vancouver and fell in love with "really good coffee." As soon as he got back to Calgary, he contacted Mark and told him, “Listen. I’ve had this great coffee and it's life-changing! Let’s do something.” In 2008, Paul and Mark opened the first Deville Coffee in Calgary.
