Love this place. Can't believe I never noticed it before. Huge portions, reasonably priced and fresh food. I loved the fireplace and so did my wife. It was a little dark in the restaurant but our waitress went over all the foods with us without even looking at the menu, and even suggested wines that would go good with our meals. Our waitress "Corrine" was AMAZING!! You could tell from the minute she served us she was well educated about the restaurant and foods, and knew how to handle a very large restaurant on her own. I even watched her jump on the bar as we were leaving to help them clean up. We will be back and ask to sit in her section as she was informative and pleasant. Marc.
We barely saw our waiter the whole time. Waited about 10 minutes after we sat down just to be asked if we wanted drinks. When my sons finally got their appetizers...we realized there was no cutlery. I asked the server who gave us our food for some, and we still never got any. I ended up taking some off another table. They weren't even busy. I must admit my family liked their meals, but my Chicken Caesar salad was about as tasty as a glass of warm water. I didn't even finish it because it was so flavourless. One of my sons asked for another iced tea...we never saw that either. When the waiter finally returned, we told him everything that was happening, and all he could say was "I had no idea". My wife, a former waitress, even said to him "No wonder you didn't know. We never saw you." He gave us the bill and disappeared again. I finally went to the till to pay and he swooped in from nowhere like Batman. I gave him a tip that rewarded him for every bit of effort he put into our evening. A big fat 0%. I've had better experiences eating at street vendors. We will NEVER go back.
Can't go wrong here with the pub food. even if it's busy, you'll have great service. Stick with the traditional stews, pies and the best meat loaf around.
We will avoid a return visit to this restaurant for two reasons: 1) The chicken curry entree that we ordered was overcooked, loaded with tomato paste and extremely salty. I ordered an extra pint to wash away the overpowering flavour of the meal. Hours later, however, I can still taste the salt in the roof of my mouth. 2) When my dinner partner and I offered feedback on the meal, including ways that we felt would make it more palatable, both our server and the restaurant owner were very defensive. Our server did offer to charge us for only one entree, however we were charged for both entrees. Ultimately, it was the reaction of both owner and server that will prevent us from returning - more than even the poor quality of our meal.
My Family and I frequently go to Ye Olde Squire. I usually get the Fish and Chips and I have to say they are amazing, fresh cut fries and a generous piece of fish. My wife had the Chicken Pot pie and was overly impressed. Kids usually get the Chicken Strips or Macaroni, but my daughter has now moved onto the French Onion Soup and loves it! Portion sizes are very generous and the restaurant has a nice atmosphere. In winter time the fireplace creates a great ambiance. Service is good and the staff is very accommodating. Definitely the hidden Gem of Burlington. If you haven't tried it, you should.
Walked in, sat down, got up, walked out. Noisy, seemed dirty, not a comfortabe vibe at all. Can't comment on the food but the atmoshpere didn't make me feeling like parting with my money
The pint of Guinness was $7 pre tax - robbery. No Canadian micro brewery beer - not even the Burlington beer - Nickelbrook. Just the same old imported beer and the same old tired foreign owned wet air made by Labatt and Molson. 1/2 litre of Ontario red wine was $15 which is not bad at all. Liver was not cooked and sent back. Upon its return, the bacon was very much underdone. Steak and mushroom pie was dry and hard to swallow easily. Tinned mushrooms. Chicken pie had soggy crust - very little chicken. Mostly peas, carrots and horrible white sauce. Chips were nothing to rave about. The place was very busy. Obviously, people in Burlington have no taste. I shall never visit this restaurant again. The food was ghastly. It is so sad that poor restaurants like this exist and thrive. Our bill was $90.92 before the tip. (the kids meals were free on a Saturday).
First of all, I have to say i love the fireplace in the middle of the restaurant - it is just relaxing to watch! Now, onto my food review... We go to the squire from time to time. This time the food was excellent. Fish & Chips are homemade & are just do die for! Curry was great! I always find the wings to be hit or miss there...either too greasy, or just not flavourful. Other than that - its always about the servers. There are a few very experienced serving staff there that do an excellent job! That being said, there are a few that could do with a job performance review..... Will definitely be going back!
okay this was my last and final time I will give Squires a chance (see other review from me). Went there Friday night for dinner with my husband. Started off great got a nice two seater booth, drinks ordered and delivered on time. Server took our order in a timely fashion. Then we waited, and waited and waited. Took 25 mins for my starter greek salad to come. With no dressing. Took another 10 mins of me trying to get our servers attention...before another server came to our table and said she was told that I may not have gotten any dressing. I just asked her to ring me a side of dressing that will be fine. The dressing came and it was Italian and not greek. Maybe thats what they do there? not sure. But I ate it and it was ok, nothing special. Another 15 mins goes by..so we have been waiting 35 mins now for pasta and quesadillas. Our server had not been by our table once...to 1)ask us for more drinks 2)see if i got my salad ok and dressing mess up fixed 3) let us know the eta of our food since we had been there a long time. Now the food arrives..the bottom of my quesadillas were burnt. thanks for putting that part on the bottom so that i couldnt see it. Took a bite and was grossed out. I peeled the back layer off my quesadilla and ate just the top. Server did get us waters as we asked when the food came out. But did not come back to the table again to 1) ask how our food was..she walked by serveral times ignoring us. Pasta was not to my husbands liking because it had tarragon in it and he didnt like the spice.. but thats his opinion. When we were finished we got our bill in a timely manner. We had to tip her appropriately to what the service we got..and I am also a server so I hate bad tippers. I also hate when people tip because the food was bad, its not the servers fault. But when she doesnt come to our table to ask how we are doing, hows the food, and she doesnt even acknowledge us as she is rushing by..then she will get tipped on the quality of food as well, because she didnt do anything to rectify. She got 10%
We sat at the tables in the bar area. Waited a good 10 mins before a server even acknowledged us. Ordered drinks, took a while to come to our table. Then waited for our order to be taken. Bar was not busy 2 guys at the bar and one other bar table..the bartender had maybe 2 tables on the patio as well. Took over 35 mins to receive food..sat with our drinks empty for quite a while. No apologies from the bartender about when food was coming or that she would check when it was ready. It was simple order, eggs benedict and a chicken sandwich. told about 10 mins after ordering that there was no english muffins for eggs benedict. had to have regular bread. The food came and it was warm, not sure if the kitchen was back logged or the bartender just took her time picking up the food. But again no apology of where and when food was coming. When food came she asked if we wanted another drink. About 5 mins before food was done we asked for the bill..bartender proceeded to serve about 3 customers who had walked in after us asking for bill . When she got to the table looked at the bill said..oh its wrong..turned around and went back to her till to print another. no aplogies. Saw a customer stand at the bar for a while to ask a simple question and was ignored by bartender who continued to cut lemons. The bartender just was no up to par, head in the clouds and not very attentitive to her customers. Except for the regulars with whom she served promptly before anyone else. The previous experience we had was also a very long wait for the food. And the bartender at that time apologized, kept on our drinks, and ultimately spoke with the manager to make sure we received compensations for waiting for a long period of time. The bartender was very attentive and apologitic and it was a much busier bar for her to handle. I am not sure where they got this sunday bartender but she would be better off cutting lemons for a living, because that was her main concern.
I love this bar, it's got great food, excellent service, and an owner who isn't too cool to chat with everyone. This place reminds me a lot of a family more than a bar, everyone seems to know everyone, but not in a clicky way, everyone is super friendly. I just wish I lived closer to this place cuz I'd be here all the time. I also love the live musicians they have here, Josh and Dave are good. Fish and chips here are AMAZING. So is a lot of their menu.
I just want to say that Geeve is doing a good thing here. Worked with him before and good for you for opening this place. It's great to see a restaurant run by someone who knows what they are doing
the welcoming was all but non existant,we had to move the table as the servers were always hitting their butts against the person sitting to one side of the table,we were in no hurry ,there were only our party of 5 and another party of 10 in the restaurant when our starters arrived. At this point we ordered another drink and our main course, which arrived whilst we were still eating our starters, the waitress started to remove our plates as we were eating and replacing them with our main course,I objected to which my bowl for the bones to the wings was removed and replaced with my curry. The curry was terrible not edible at all, just rice 4 pieces of strip chicken and a packet tomatoe type sauce poured over everything. No one at any time was concerned about the uneaten dinner ,once all meals were on the table we were left alone for 36 mins until we were asked if we wanted the bill,no would you like to see the dessert menu or tea or coffee or more drinks,it was obvious the server wanted us to leave,a very dissappointing evening,we shall not be returning.
