Located several blocks south of the main downtown street, this house converted over to a country-decor eatery is a popular breakfast spot for locals! It can be crowded on weekends. Breakfast is plentiful with home fries & fresh fruit - well cooked, not greasey! Delicious eggs benedict! It has great dinners here too, providing free live weekend entertainment later in the summer evenings. (Easy listening/Western/Rock& Roll two person bands seem the norm...well suited to the casual dining atmosphere in this licensed restaurant!) This is our favourite place to dine on our way to cottage country in the summer! It has a friendly efficient staff. The food is cooked by the owner - chef with several skilled helpers. Their pride in their culinary arts shows with healthy creatively cooked meals. Some of their dinners are so large that they offer 1/2 orders - this choice in their great Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding Dinner was plenty for me! With good seating for small or large groups, this is definately a family restaurant serving all age groups. They serve breakfast early and go to mid afternoon, then close for an hour or so then open for dinner. Limited free parking behind the house and on the local street. Try to go at off hours to be assured a seat in this popular eatery!
Small, quaint restaurant. Service was very good. French toast and bacon was so good. My husband had sausage and eggs and toast with hash browns. Homemade and so tasty. Would definitely go back. Not busy probably due to be at 9:30 during the week. Nice atmosphere.
Durham Cafe was suggested to us by a local client when asked for a great local lunch spot. We always try to find unique places to visit during our business travels that give a good flavor of the area -- both food and people. Durham Cafe didn't disappoint. It was very busy but we found a table with no wait and the service was quick and friendly. The menu had many choices, but I opted to order what I saw many others eating and the baked onion soup and grilled cheese on homemade bread were fabulous.
Two eggs were cooked in a small frying pan, but tasted like they were deep fried in Vegtable Oil, or something similar. Toast barely toasted, yet litterly shattered when bit. Bacon was just warm, and was certainly precooked some other day!!! Waitress was very friendly, attentive, and professional, as she was juggling many tables at a time. She should have been trained for the kitchen, or at the very least, could train them a few things about being a professional and consistant. I think some of the reviews in here are the owners pumping themselves.
Based on reviews here, and my own bias on restaurants in Lindsay (meaning I don't think very highly of them here), I didn't know what to expect here. The breakfast order that my husband and I did was fair prices, 2 eggs, bacon, homefries and toast and coffee was ample, and I just loved the taste! My 6 yr old ordered pancakes, they specially designed a fruit face on the pancake, something they didn't have to do but yet was a really nice touch. My son had a fruit cup which was ample, fresh and well displayed. The place was hopping, enough servers and they had a wonderful system to keep things in order. Kudos to the chef and I thought the service was amazing considering it was a full house and I never once felt rushed. I will definately go back to this place, Out of all the restaurants here, I'm wishing they were open for dinner bc I'd prefer to go here over anything else that this town has for lame excuses for restaurants here!
Based on some positive reviews seen on this site we pointed our GPS in the direction of this little gem of a restaurant. To bad there isn't anything like this in North Toronto. The food was done perfectly and well presented, dessert was great....apple pie. I highly recommend this restaurant and will visit it again if I ever have a reason to go to Lindsay.
The home fries are very, very dry and mushy. The worst I have ever had. The service is fast and friendly. You may have to wait 1 hour for a seat though.
People in Lindsay think this place is god sent, but its really not. However, it does provide a nice breakfast at a very fair price, and that's what makes it so nice. For around $8 you can get coffee/tea, a shot of OJ, water, (3?) pancakes, sausage/ham/bacon, toast, 2 eggs, and homefries. That is an amazing deal!. Everything is really good, except their homefries are below par. Service is quick and the atmosphere is nice. Overall great place!
I couldn't think of a beter greasy-spoon to enjoy a great breakfast at!!! The service is quick, the atmosphere is homey and warm. The food is by far the best breakfast in Lindsay. Superb pancakes, sausauges & hash browns!!FANTASTIC!!!
Very good service and very good food. The waitress was very attentitive to our needs and always made sure we were properly served despite a full house in the restaurant. I rarely visit Lindsay as it is but usually when I do Durham Cafe is the best place to go for a breakfeast.
