100% genuine greasy spoon diner.
Absolutely genuine, authentic & legit.
An Ottawa institution since 1942.
the only place in Ottawa to go for a real breakfast.
Lisa is always a charm with her beautiful smile and pleasantly witty commentary.
Been going every few weeks for years and will forever.
( Just adds to the character of the place that Camille Cleroux worked there while he was busy doing other things in Ottawa (google him) )
This place is THE place to go for a very early breakfast after a night on the town. The people watching is second to none with lots of colourful characters. Other than that a very good place to go for diner food!
After you walk past the iconic sign hanging over Dalhousie Street, grab an old-fashioned booth or swivel on a padded stool by the bar while you watch your breakfast being made at this Ottawa fixture. A greasy spoon personified, Mellos is one of the last truly authentic diners in the city.
It has changed players and menus over the years but this standard, located on Dalhousie Street, has been at it since 1942. The arugula omelette is a nice find. And, you have no idea who you might end up sitting next to.
In business for more than 70 years, the venerable Mellos is a step back in time. While the counter tops, tables and padded bar stools haven’t changed in decades, the food certainly has thanks to the culinary talents of chef Mike Franks. The burger is the diner’s best-selling dish for good reason. Seared patties have a hint of pink inside and are made from fresh (never frozen) beef from nearby O’Brien Farms. The meaty sandwiches are topped with cheddar cheese, onions, thinly sliced pickles and toasted seed mayo. Simple, yet absolutely delicious.
