Flowers are one of the easiest ways to say what’s on your mind without words, whether it’s a gorgeous bouquet to express thanks to someone, accentuate the beauty of a wedding, or remember someone in spirit at a funeral. And since 2003, when she took over the business just before Valentine’s Day, Lisa Pillitteri has been doing just that with Primavera Flowers & More Ltd. “It was a smooth transition,” she says. “We kept the existing business from the store before, but then we started to do different things.” Some of the ideas Lisa introduced were floral events for small parties and rentals for weddings, expanding on what was already in place and taking Primavera Flowers in new and exciting directions.
Lisa had a strong start at ownership largely in part because she’d already worked at Primavera Flowers, giving her a sense of familiarity and the trust from existing customers. “We kept a good clientele,” she explains, “and tried to grow the business more.” To say she had a bit of experience would be an understatement: Lisa started working at Primavera Flowers when she was just 15. She developed a solid foundation of knowledge of the floral and event industry, which easily paved the way to take the reins of an already-successful business. “Every day is different,” she explains. “It’s creative — you get to help people choose [the right flowers for every occasion].
