Meet the owner
Working in restaurants since the age of 15, George Mathiopoulos has that certain comfort level one would look for when seeking out comfort food. “I worked at Casa Grecque on Prince Arthur, operated a Miami Subs franchise in North Carolina, and had grown up in a house with amazing home cooking, so when I started Pitarifique in 2006, I knew people would respond best to the kinds of things I would want to eat every day,” he says.
George is in no way short on customer loyalty, providing the same comfort and familiarity to others as he would provide himself. “We have people come here daily, following us from our first location just east on Rachel Street, and now that we’re visible on St-Laurent, we get all sorts flooding in,” he says, referring to the tourists, shoppers and wanderers who come in looking for a good bite to eat.
