A bit off the beaten path, but still in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Boondocks gets you so close to the fish that the lobster in your lobster roll is actually right off the hook! The views from Eastern Passage are beautiful – cross your fingers the sun is shining and you can sit outside. Order the fish and chips; they're light on the batter and heavy on the taste, and of great value, to boot.
This Eastern Passage patio is located in Fisherman’s Cove, a restored working fishing village. You’ll find locals and tourists alike enjoying the waterfront sunshine, with a view of Lawlor’s Island and MacCormack’s Beach. Pub food is served, as well as lots of deep fried seafood, steamed lobster dinners and sticky toffee pudding. Accessible by the #60 bus route, this patio makes for an easy escape from the urban core.
While Boondocks commits the soft crime of not having a toasted bun, they otherwise make a pretty decent lobster roll. It’s laced with little red onions and celery, but mostly it’s a just a nice portion of lobster with a light slap of mayo. At $15 with fries, the price is reasonable. The best part, though, is that you can enjoy this on their waterfront patio overlooking McCormack’s Beach. Lobster rolls always taste better by the water!
